JOMARI YLLANA SPEARHEADS 'MOTORSPORT CARNIVALE 2023'; MATTEO, MICHELLE AND RICHARD TO RECEIVE SPECIAL AWARDS

THE biggest motorsport event to be mounted in the Philippines in years flags off on August 2 at the Boardwalk of Okada Manila in Paranaque City.

COUNCILOR JOMARI YLLANA

Presented by Okada Manila, Motorsport Carnivale 2023 is a 5-day sporting event topped off by a Philippine Rallycross Series that is expected to gather over 50 racers en route to Tarlac and back.

Other highlights include:
CART, a Car Meet in memory of Eduardo ‘Mang Ed’ del Rosario, founding father of Cavite Auto  Racing Team, estimated to gather collectors of rare racing cars and motorsport gadgets; an Autocross Race, featuring at least 150 cars on Sunday, complete with matching champagne popping.

Awarding ceremonies recognizing past and present heroes in the field of motoring will be held at Okada Manila on August 6.

Special awards will be given to Matteo Guidicelli, Michelle Bumgarner and Congressman Richard Gomez, for their achievements.
MATTEO GUIDICELLI

“Special awards will be given. Matteo Guidicelli, for everything that he was able to achieve and contribute sa motorsports ng Pilipinas.

“Malaki yun pero kadalasan, bulong lang, di ba? Napag-uusapan lang nung nakakaintindi. Before 'yung stardom ni Matteo, he was a big, big part.

MICHELE BUMGARNER

“Another one is Michele Bumgarner. Retired. Very, very high level... Celebrity din pero alam mo yun.

“Lastly, Congressman Richard Gomez will be given a special award also for… lahat ng achievements nila and contribution.

“Goma was very, very big… during the '90s, and of course lahat ng racing events, and also yung achievements niya as a champion, as a karter.

“Matteo and Goma were great champions,” Paranaque City Councilor Jomari Yllana says who spearheaded the Okada Manila Motorsport Carnivale 2023.

CONGRESSMAN RICHARD GOMEZ

Yllana added, “Ang daming kuwento noon ni Goma, naaalala ko 'yun eh, pagdating sa 'Palibhasa Lalake' set. He was convincing me to, you know, compete in karting. Sabi ko, ‘Hindi ko type yan!’

“And he would tell stories, like, ‘You know when I competed in Hong Kong, I was battling with Giancarlo Fisichella…’ F1 champion yun, ha?! Italyano.

“And karter pa lang sila, they were competing with each other, battling it out. And si Goma, of course, retired from motorsports.

“Pero yung Giancarlo Fisichella went all the way up to F1 and became a champion.

“So, ang sa akin ano, we’re looking at history, we’re looking at the background.  Kailangan nating tumingin sa pinanggalingan natin para marating yung paroroonan.

“So we’re giving away special awards for celebrities na malaki ang nai-contribute sa motorsports.”

RIKKI DY-LIACCO & VICTOR GALZOTE

The actor-turned-politician is a long-time racing enthusiast, who hopes to bring back the glory days of motorsports in the country, in reference to the time when the Philippine Grand Prix was being held in Manila from 1973 to 1976. That series of events came to be known for its prestige and grandeur.

Yllana says he wants to encourage Filipinos to embrace the rich history of Philippine motorsports by rallying all racing enthusiasts and fanatics into one community.

“We want to encourage audiences, families, to come and watch this event as a fun family festival that they can look forward to every year,” he says.

No stranger to the sport, Yllana has won and placed in several local races and is the first Filipino podium finisher at the Yeongam International Circuit in South Korea in 2014. He is also the principal driver of pro racing team, Yllana Racing.
