Taste the different flavors of romance in “Recipes of Love

THEY say food is a great start to great love stories. This March 31 (Sunday), explore love in different forms and representations as GMA Public Affairs presents “Recipes of Love.”

A drama special that is sure to tickle the taste buds of viewers, Recipes of Love whips a hearty offering of true-to-life love stories that blend food and relationships featuring this generation’s notable actors.

For its first recipe, Kapuso actress Katrina Halili and sought-after Sparkle actor Martin del Rosario try to defend their love against all odds in “Tortang Talong with Tuna.”

A single mother of two, Gemmalyn (Katrina) works hard to grow her small eatery (carinderia) for her children. She is gifted as a natural cook and can come up with simple recipes that leave her customers returning for more. One of her popular dishes is “Tortang talong with tuna,” or eggplant omelet with tuna.

 Katrina Halili

Through her small business, Gemmalyn meets Jonathan (Martin). At first, Jonathan is just one of Gemmalyn’s frequent customers. They become close and eventually fall for each other.

Jonathan does not mind that Gemmalyn is a single parent with two kids – something that the latter is truly grateful for.

Martin del Rosario

But as it turns out, Jonathan comes from a rich family. When Jonathan introduces Gemmalyn to them, they immediately object to their relationship. They trample on Gemmalyn's being and try to keep her away from Jonathan.

Jonathan is determined to fight for Gemmalyn, but to what extent can the two lovers endure all the pain?

Katrina Halili & Martin del Rosario

MTRCB bans film “Chasing Tuna in the Ocean” over nine-dash line

THE Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) announced today its decision to ban the film “Chasing Tuna in the Ocean” from domestic exhibition, citing scenes that prominently display the controversial nine-dash line.

The film has been slapped with an “X” rating, categorizing it as "Not for Public Exhibition" within the Philippines.

The decision comes after a thorough review by the MTRCB Committee on First Review, which concluded that the film's depiction of the nine-dash line symbolizes China's territorial claim over the South China Sea. Said depiction is considered an attack against the prestige of the Republic of the Philippines and is violative of Section 3 (c) of Presidential Decree No. 1986 (PD No. 1986).

"The MTRCB will continue to exercise its powers and prerogatives consistent with its mandate, and as Filipinos, we shall not tolerate any content that undermines the prestige of the Republic of the Philippines," MTRCB Chairperson and CEO Lala Sotto said on Thursday.

“As it stands, ‘Chasing Tuna in the Ocean’ won’t be exhibited in the Philippines. However, given that the ‘X’ rating was imposed by the Committee on First Review, under PD No. 1986, Producers are not precluded from applying before the Board a request for a Second review, provided, however, that they submit a revised material with the contentious scenes deleted to adhere to the MTRCB Charter. This serves as a reminder to producers to conform with MTRCB standards,” Sotto emphasized.

"Chasing Tuna in the Ocean" records the hardships of the fishermen fishing for tuna in the Indian Ocean, and presents the fearlessness and responsibility of the fishermen from a delicate perspective.

Creative and Entertainment Personalities call on Senate to boost Intellectual Property Code, enable online site blocking

THE Philippine creative, entertainment, and digital industries have joined hands to push for the Senate’s swift passage of amendments to the Intellectual Property Code to enable online site blocking as a measure to combat content piracy, safeguard intellectual property rights, and foster the growth of Filipino talent and creativity.

Lending their voices and support to the cause are actors Ryan Eigenmann, Cai Cortez, and Kiray Celis; host and presenter Pia Guanio-Mago; and writer-director Fifth Solomon. Together, they amplify the call for shared responsibility in combating online piracy to ensure that Filipino talents are duly recognized, protected, and rewarded.

Their support follows recent calls from multi-awarded actor John Arcilla and leading actress Shaina Magdayao for the Senate to pass amendments enabling online site blocking and commit to stopping piracy.

Online piracy inflicts extensive harm on the ecosystem of the creative and entertainment industry, which comprises a multitude of professionals operating both in front of the camera and behind the scenes. The group underscores the depth of the problem’s impact and the urgent need for legislative measures to combat it.

"Enabling online site blocking represents a critical step forward in our journey towards creating a safer digital landscape. It's about empowering our creators and ensuring that they are safeguarded against the unfair practices of online piracy. With this measure, we look forward to a future where Filipino talent is free from the constraints of digital theft," said Yoly Crisanto, Globe's Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer.

The proposal to allow online site blocking under the 26-year-old Intellectual Property Code seeks to protect both the creative industry and consumers by curbing the proliferation of pirate websites and prevent legitimate content businesses from suffering revenue loss due to online theft.

Albay 2nd District Rep. Joey Salceda’s House Bill No. 7600, which seeks this amendment, was already passed by the House of Representatives almost a year ago. Counterpart bills in the Senate, introduced by Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr., both actors, have yet to advance.

These separate legislations aim to update and strengthen the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines by enhancing the enforcement capabilities of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) against piracy.

The bills also seek to remove the IP Code's existing limitations by broadening its scope to encompass electronic and online content within the definition of pirated goods.

Through its #PlayItRight campaign, Globe has been actively combating online piracy and championing a responsible digital ecosystem for the past six years. The company is convinced that the IP Code amendment will protect the rights and livelihood of content creators and industries reliant on intellectual creativity, as well as foster ethical consumption and distribution of digital content.

To provide an interim site-blocking measure pending passage of amendment bill, Globe earlier joined forces with the IPOPHL and four leading Internet Service Providers (ISPs) by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish a site-blocking mechanism targeting pirate sites, marking Asia's first initiative of its kind.
