Optical Media Board supports Globe's anti-piracy advocacy '#PlayItRight'

THE Optical Media Board (OMB) expressed recently its full support to the #PlayItRight anti-piracy advocacy of Globe Telecom by helping educate the general public against malware, cyber security threats and access to illegal digital content and torrent sites.

Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu said that the support of OMB, a government agency dedicated to combat piracy, is a big boost to the #PlayItRight campaign.

“We are grateful to OMB for recognizing our advocacy on anti-piracy. Our partnership will reinforce our educational drive against the illegal distribution of copy-righted content to a greater reach,” Cu explained.

“The internet has become the main source of almost all the copy right infringement content nowadays and we need all the help we can get. We are encouraging the OMB to invite other stakeholders as well such as the cinemas to collaborate with our education drive to target the moviegoers,” Cu added.

OMB Chair & CEO Atty. Anselmo B. Adriano said that the biggest problem of OMB is the big market for pirated videos out there because people don’t know why they should not buy pirated materials.

“In as much as we try to be creative in our enforcement and disrupt the distribution chain and the retail chain for pirated video, there is still a big market for it. This is why we need to target the market through education. This is the reason why we are partnering with other organizations and companies like Globe to push for more education,” Adriano exclaimed.

The OMB will also actively participate in the Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP) of Globe that teaches responsible use of the internet to children in public schools by including illegal downloading of illegal content online in the training module.

Having partnered with global and local content creators and distributors for its content business, Globe has taken an active role in promoting legitimate sources of online content. In 2017, the company launched the #PlayItRight advocacy to help the entertainment industry curb piracy and protect intellectual property rights.

The OMB has been successful in curbing out pirated movies, music and software in DVDs nationwide and educating the public against illegal cam cording in cinemas through the years. The OMB is created pursuant to Republic Act No. 9239 under the Office of the President to regulate the production, use and distribution of optical and magnetic media in the country.

ZAZIE BEETZ: DOMINO OF LUCK IN "DEADPOOL 2"

DEADPOOL comic creator Rob Liefeld is a fan of his character’s movies. “Ryan made “Deadpool” a little dirtier. He brings that extra-edgy material that works. He’s perfect for it. They’ve taken great liberties with the R-rating and I think it found its own niche. I’m thrilled that there’s this different muscle that Fox gets to work out,” enthuses Liefeld.

ZAZIE BEETZ

“I am an artist who wanted to write because I got control of the content of my visuals,” continues Liefeld. “That’s where the battle is won - the visuals win the day in terms of cool. I still turn my head at a cool “Deadpool” drawing, whether I drew it or not or if I see him in real life. That red and black looks magnificent. While “Deadpool” spans comic books to actions figures, The best version is what they’ve done with these films because they’ve put the utmost care and love into them and they haven’t betrayed the comic. They take some liberties, but they’re sticking true to the sources, and they should, because there is a fan base out there. X-Force is the second best-selling comic of all time. I thought that would not stand. Twenty six years later, now I know it’s never going to fall.”

As well as giving Deadpool and Cable life, Rob Liefeld also created Domino, introducing her in New Mutants #98, the same issue in which Deadpool debuted. Liefeld says, “Deadpool took everybody down in the course of 10 pages, and Domino took Deadpool down in one page! She’s capable. She can go toe-to-toe with anybody, especially Deadpool and Cable. She is a badass combatant with a unique power. It’s an unknown power of probabilities, kind of a luck power. She’s wonderfully unpredictable in that way.”

Liefeld was delighted with the casting of Zazie Beetz. “I cheered the day they cast her. I thought, ‘she’s perfect,’ because who else is going to stand toe-to-toe with Ryan and take none of his crap? And Zazie as Domino has achieved that. It’s just a great dynamic.”

               

“I feel very honored to be bringing the role to life,” says Beetz, “And be the first live action Domino, to be entrusted with that. I’m black, and she doesn’t look black. That did concern me, but I really appreciated it when Rob Liefeld told me that he’d never assigned a race to her. And if you read the comics, she has different aliases that are very international names.”

“Domino is lucky,” says Beetz. “I think that because she’s sort of jaded, she takes it for granted. She’s sarcastic and sardonic. She goes head to head with Deadpool, and doesn’t take his shit. Domino does her own thing. She’s not really a sidekick, she holds her own. She’s a mercenary and does her job and then heads out. She knows what she’s got, and it’s interesting because that can open up the discussion of where does that luck end and begin? Because her past is quite tragic. I find it an interesting juxtaposition. She’s lucky, but to what extent? If everything just works out for you, then what’s the point in even being motivated to do anything? She struggles with that a lot.”

DINGDONG and ANNE, together in much-awaited romantic-drama 'SID & AYA (NOT A LOVE STORY)'

VIVA Films brings together on screen the Princess of All Media, Anne Curtis and the 49th Box Office Entertainment Awards’ Film Actor of the Year, Dingdong Dantes in this year’s much-awaited romantic-drama, “SID & AYA (NOT A LOVE STORY),” which opens in theaters nationwide on May 30.

From the screenplay and direction of box-office writer / director Irene Villamor (Camp Sawi and Meet Me In St. Gallen), Anne and Dingdong went to Japan to shoot some of the movie’s important scenes.

In the story, Dingdong plays Sid, an insomniac, while Anne portrays the role of Aya, the mysterious woman Sid meets and asks to spend time with him as he battles with those long, sleepless and empty nights.

The film’s tagline about it not being a love story is as intriguing as Anne and Dingdong’s first major big screen pairing.

The description that went with the full trailer of “Sid & Aya…” on YouTube, is indeed enough to tickle the imagination of moviegoers.

Anne and Dingdong first worked together years ago in the teen-oriented TV show, “TGIS,” where they were given different partners. “SID & AYA…” is their first-ever screen pairing much to the delight of their huge following.

Based on the trailer released recently by VIVA Films, Anne and Dingdong displayed such strong chemistry, especially in scenes that are sizzlingly romantic.

But as Dingdong’s character Sid tells us, “Hindi naman lahat ng may ‘I love you,’ ay  love story na, eh.”

Superstar Nora Aunor signs contract with GMA for the primetime drama series 'Onanay'

SUPERSTAR Ms. Nora Aunor has signed a contract last Thursday (May 10) for GMA Network's upcoming primetime drama series, Onanay.

Onanay is a heart-warming and different kind of story of love and acceptance between a mother who suffers from Achondroplasia, a bone growth disorder that stunted her growth and her two daughters who grew up physically normal despite the mother’s condition. It shows the infinite and unconditional love that a mother has, and that there is nothing she won’t sacrifice for her children.

Ms. Aunor plays a very special role in the series as Nelia, a loving and caring grandmother who is kind yet willing to fight for what is right and will do everything for her family.

Launched in August 2017, PPP is a seven-day exclusive screening of quality genre Filipino films in all cinemas nationwide in line with the Buwan ng Wika. Now on its second year, FDCP aims to further maximize this time to holistically conduct a series of events and forms of support for Filipino films, from celebratory fiestas for the public to educational fora and conferences for film industry professionals. Pista will run from August 15-21, 2018. As with the usual industry practice, the gross sales from PPP shall be shared only between the film producers and theaters.

During the PPP Media Launch held last May 3, 2018 in Quezon City, FDCP Chairperson Liza Diño emphasized that these endeavors aligned with PPP would allow for Filipino films to truly grow and take the leap from local to international distribution. “PPP comes at an impeccable time especially now that we are celebrating the One Hundred Years of Philippine Cinema. FDCP believes that beyond this centennial, it is high time for us to show the world the best of our films by pushing for international distribution. We want to inspire our filmmakers to reach audiences beyond our borders by producing films that are quality-made, well-developed, and produced with a wide local and global audience in mind. PPP encourages this by becoming their jump-off point,” Diño said.

PPP is a partnership with all theaters in the country and kicks off the season with returning Selection Committee Members editor Manet Dayrit, cinemagrapher Lee Briones, and Director Joey Reyes with two new members - acclaimed Director Carlitos Siguion-Reyna and award-winning actress and producer, Cherie Gil.

With an updated mechanics, PPP is welcoming new films produced from 2017-2018 which will have their Philippine Premiere in Pista. Furthermore, the second year of Sine Kabataan Short Film Competition. For young filmmakers aged 18-30 will be conducted under FDCP in partnership with The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). As a new feature of the competition, will also have an educational and mentorship component through the Sine Kamp. Singer, actor, and youth advocate Ice Seguerra will serve this year as the Sine Kabataan Ambassador.

As a support to its Filipino producers and on top of providing a nationwide platform for the distribution of their films, FDCP will also offer the chance for selected finalists produced by independent production to apply for a marketing and distribution grant. FDCP will also be committing for all interested PPP finalists to be part of the roster of films to be brought by the Agency in international film markets to support the producers in securing international distributors and agents.

Another big event in line with the PPP is the Film Industry Conference (FIC), a two-day conference that offers both local and international perspectives on how to further strengthen Filipino filmmaking. It will focus on perspectives and will feature speakers from the Asian region, discussions will zero in on topics on filmmaking, from regional distribution, and regional co-productions to script development and film criticism and will be held from August 17-18, 2018.

PPP will again be supported this year by different government local government units and agencies, and by Globe Telecom with its Play It Right campaign against online piracy.

“With all of these added events and features of Pista, we hope for the Filipino audiences and film industry professionals alike to take this opportunity to both celebrate Philippine cinema in our country and take an active part in its next great steps towards international recognition and distribution,” Diño added.

The eight (8) selected films will be announced by the first week of July 2018.

Infairness, pinabongga ang pagwi-welcome kay Arjo na maging part ng growing family na Beautederm na pag-aari ng nice and lovable na si Ms. Rhea Anicoche-Tan, dahil tulad ng ginawa niya kina Matt Evans, Carlo Aquino at Sylvia Sanchez, naglalakihang billboards ang kanilang pinagawa.

May video rin na nilabas para sa pag-i-endorse ni Arjo ng bagong produkto. Bongga rin ang presscon, hindi nagtipid sa foods at may pa-raffle pa, kaya nagmistulang Christmas in April, kaya tuwang-tuwa ang mga nagsipagdalo sa launching.

Anyway, hindi naiwasang tanungin si Arjo tungkol sa kanyang first showbiz girlfriend na Sammie Rimando na member ng Girltrends na napapanood sa It's Showtime.

Pero kahit alam na ng lahat ang kanilang relasyon, gusto pa rin niyang maging pribado ito.

“I wanna keep it to myself kasi kahit papaano, even if people knows, I wanna keep my privacy with Sammie.

“The only thing that I can tell you is that, I’m very, very happy.

Nilinaw din niya na hindi sila nagkaroon ng relasyon ni Sue Ramirez na ka-loveteam niya sa katatapos lang na Hanggang Saan.

“Sue and I are really, really good friends, pahayag ni Arjo.

“I can’t explain po sa inyo how close we got po when we did Hanggang Saan.

“Unbelievable experience. Napakahusay na artista, wala akong masabi.”

Inamin din ni Arjo na bukod kay Sue, dream din niyang maka-partner si Julia Montes, na sa pagkakaalam namin ay may pinaplano ang Regal Entertainment na movie para sa kanila, na hopefully matuloy para ma-check niya ang isa sa nasa bucket list.

Type din niyang makatrabaho someday sina Maja Salvador at Bea Alonzo.

May mga pelikula siyang gagawin this year, pero hindi pa raw pwedeng sabihin kung anu-ano ito. May natapos din siyang movie, na naghihintay lang kung kailan ito ipalalabas, pero siguradong manggugulat na naman siya dito, dahil balitang nakapahusay na naman ng pagkakaganap niya.

Isa pa sa dapat abangan ay ang pagbabalik primetime niya.

MARICEL SORIANO

Lumabas na kasi na nabanggit na ni Diamond Star Maricel Soriano na siya ang magiging anak sa bagong serye sa ABS-CBN, ang The General’s Daughter.

Kaya nagulat si Arjo nang matanong tungkol dito dahil alam niyang dapat munang ilihim yun. Pero hindi lang niya babanggitin ang role pero tiyak na isa ito sa most challenging na kanyang gagawin.

Kinakabahan na si Arjo at excited na makatrabaho si Maricel at hindi raw niya kung paano ito gagawin.

“Sabi niya, 'You have to believe in yourself,' and she’s there to guide me," ayon sa pahayag niya.

Isa rin sa labis na natutuwa sa pangyayaring ito ang kanyang Mommy Sylvia na naging malapit din sa hinahangaang aktres, may post pa nga ito na naipagluto niya si Maricel at nakapag-kuwentuhan sa pagsasama nila bilang mag-ina.
